Sealion 06 Windscreen Replacement and Camera Checks

Replacement front glass is not automatically a reason to reject a Sealion 06, but the repair needs more than a clean appearance. The fitted glass, camera arrangement, sealing and any required calibration must match the selected vehicle. Establish the original market and equipment before judging the work. The relevant question is whether the repair was correctly specified, completed and documented, not whether a dashboard photograph happens to show no warning.

Identify the glass and equipment combination

Collect the VIN, build information and installed front-camera or sensor arrangement before requesting a replacement part. Record visible glass markings and compare them with the repair invoice and vehicle specification through a qualified supplier. Features associated with the windscreen can vary; do not order by the words Sealion 6 alone. The China Sealion 06 parts-matching guide explains the identity boundary. A panel that fits the opening is not automatically the correct optical or equipment specification. Ask the workshop to identify applicable procedures rather than guessing from an adjacent model.

Understand why the glass was replaced

Ask for the date, reason, invoice and any photographs before repair. A stone chip and a collision involving the windscreen aperture raise different follow-up questions. Where impact or body repair is involved, use the structural inspection guide rather than limiting attention to the glass. Missing paperwork does not prove serious damage, but it reduces the evidence available to a buyer. Record what is seller-stated and what has been inspected. Avoid allowing a polished replacement panel to stand in for a wider body-condition assessment.

Inspect fit and sealing without destructive tests

A qualified inspector should assess the visible installation, trim, bonding evidence where observable and signs of water entry. Check for unusual wind noise during an ordinary permitted road test and report the conditions in which it appears. Damp trim or staining should prompt a controlled investigation, not a claim based only on touch. Do not remove bonded glass, probe seals or pressure-test sensitive areas without an appropriate workshop procedure. The water-entry guide can help organise the observation history. A dry cabin on one day does not rule out an intermittent leak.

Confirm camera mounting and calibration requirements

Where a camera is fitted, ask the workshop which inspection, alignment or calibration procedure applies after the particular repair. Requirements depend on the vehicle and work performed; neither always-needed nor never-needed is a safe universal assumption. Request a dated report tied to the VIN when calibration is required, including the system and procedure used. A cleared warning or a statement that the car drives straight is not an equivalent record. Do not attempt to validate lane-support functions by deliberately drifting or creating hazardous scenarios on public roads.

Separate display settings from system readiness

After repair, review normal warnings and available functions through the vehicle instructions. A menu option being present does not show that a camera is correctly mounted or calibrated. Equally, a feature unavailable in one destination may involve regional support rather than glass damage. Use the software and ADAS assessment to keep those issues distinct. Preserve diagnostic findings before clearing them and have a competent workshop interpret them. Avoid promising that a software update alone will resolve a physical installation problem, especially when no fault investigation has been completed.

Price the complete repair and support route

A quotation should separate glass, related trim or consumables, installation, required calibration and any follow-up inspection. Confirm that the destination workshop can support the actual China-market vehicle and obtain the correct part. Include realistic parts lead time and downtime, not just the cheapest panel available online. If repair is completed before shipment, request evidence that can be understood by the receiving workshop. If it will be completed after arrival, make the unresolved scope explicit in the purchase budget and avoid treating the vehicle as ready for unrestricted use without assessment.

Recheck after transport and retain the evidence

At arrival, compare glass condition with dispatch photographs and record new chips, trim movement or water marks before they are altered. Have any visibility or safety concern assessed before normal driving. Keep the invoice, part reference and calibration report with the service history so a future technician can understand what changed. The first local service plan is a suitable place to close outstanding checks. Good documentation does not remove the need for inspection, but it makes the next decision more precise than a general assurance that the windscreen is new.

Buyer checklist

  • Match glass and fitted sensors to VIN and market.
  • Establish the reason and scope of replacement.
  • Obtain applicable calibration evidence where required.
  • Check sealing, visibility and destination repair support.

Questions and answers

Does every windscreen replacement require the same calibration?

No. The applicable procedure depends on the fitted systems and repair. A qualified workshop should confirm the requirements for the exact vehicle rather than applying a universal rule.

Is a warning-free dashboard enough to accept the repair?

No. It does not replace correct parts identification, installation inspection or required calibration records. Assess the repair as a complete documented job.
