Sealion 06 Keys, Connected Accounts and Handover

A Sealion 06 handover is incomplete if the buyer receives the car but remains dependent on the previous owner's phone. Separate physical access, any supported digital key and optional connected services. Each may have different equipment, account and regional requirements. Establish what works locally before purchase, and put unresolved features in writing. A successful demonstration in the seller's environment does not guarantee the same services after export.

Inventory the access equipment before payment

Ask for a written list of supplied physical keys, emergency-access items and any supported cards or digital credentials. Do not assume a fixed number from a generic model advertisement. Photograph non-sensitive identifiers and note missing or damaged items without publishing key codes. Check the exact version information where equipment differs. A replacement key can involve more than buying a shell: programming, compatible parts and an authorised service route may be required. Agree who resolves a missing key before the handover is treated as complete.

Demonstrate each supplied physical key separately

Use normal operating instructions to demonstrate unlocking, locking and starting with each key. Keep other keys sufficiently separated so they do not mask a failed item, following a safe procedure agreed with the inspector. Check the permitted emergency-access process in the manual rather than improvising lock or trim removal. Record intermittent behaviour and visible damage. Do not conclude that the immobiliser is faulty merely because a key battery is depleted; have uncertain symptoms assessed. Conversely, one working remote does not establish that every item listed in the sale is functional.

Identify what the connected functions actually require

List the functions the buyer expects, such as status viewing or remote features, and ask which are supported by this vehicle and destination. Account registration, mobile service, region, software and subscription conditions may matter. The regional software guide should be read before treating a demonstration screen as a promise. Ask for the official transfer process applicable to the original market. Do not use borrowed identities, another person's telephone account or unofficial software workarounds to make a feature appear operational during acceptance. Basic vehicle use and optional connected convenience should be priced separately.

Transfer ownership without sharing passwords

Arrange the supported removal of previous-owner access and registration of the buyer where available. The parties should use their own accounts and devices; sending passwords in a group chat is not a sound handover method. Confirm whether any additional user, digital key or delegated access remains active. Preserve an acknowledgement of completed transfer without retaining unnecessary personal data. If official transfer is unavailable in the destination, record that limitation before purchase and evaluate whether physical-key operation meets the buyer's needs. Do not describe an unresolved account as transferred simply because the dashboard has been reset.

Clear personal information deliberately

Review paired phones, navigation destinations, user profiles and other stored personal information through the documented controls. Make sure deleting personal data does not remove evidence the parties still need for a dispute or inspection. Request relevant service records separately, with unnecessary former-owner details redacted. A factory reset and an account unbinding process are not necessarily the same operation. Ask qualified support when the distinction is unclear. Avoid opening private messages or other unrelated data found in the vehicle; the task is secure handover, not investigation of the former user's personal life.

Prepare for a lost key after import

Identify a destination service provider that can support the exact vehicle and ask what ownership proof and parts information would be required for replacement. Include lead time and indicative scope in the VIN-specific parts plan, without publishing security-sensitive data. Store spare access equipment securely and keep it separate from the car in normal use. A seller's promise to mail a replacement later is weaker than a completed, demonstrated set at handover. If only one usable key is supplied, make that a visible commercial condition rather than a small note buried in correspondence.

Close the handover with a signed access record

Record the supplied items, completed demonstrations, account status and any exclusions. Link the record to the vehicle identity and date. For a transported car, distinguish the key sent with the carrier from any spare sent separately, and confirm receipt at destination. During the arrival inspection, repeat ordinary access checks and report discrepancies promptly. Do not let a connected-service issue obscure a missing physical key, or vice versa. The buyer should know exactly how the vehicle can be accessed, what remains unsupported and who is responsible for agreed outstanding work.

Buyer checklist

  • List every supplied key and supported access method.
  • Demonstrate physical keys without another key masking failure.
  • Use the official account transfer process where available.
  • Document regional limitations and replacement support.

Questions and answers

Does resetting the screen remove previous-owner access?

Not necessarily. Confirm the applicable account and digital-access removal process; clearing local settings may be a separate action.

Should the seller give me their connected-app password?

No. Use a supported ownership-transfer process and individual accounts. Shared credentials create security and privacy problems and may not establish valid ownership access.

Use the applicable market and year documentation for equipment and operating limits. The references have their own market and publication scope; they do not establish the condition, fitted equipment or destination approval of an individual vehicle.
